Gemfire Corporation (www.gemfire.com), a telecom components company, contracted Gener8 to develop a customized Variable Multiplexer (VMUX) module based upon Gemfire’s best-in-class 16-port Variable Optical Attenuators (VOAs).
The design goals of the design were to

Gener8 met these goals by using Gemfire’s VOAs to design a best in class VMUX module with the lowest power consumption and smallest size of any available VMUX module. The module is controlled by a simple and intuitive RS-232 interface (I2C optional) and comes with a easy to use calibration system and user interface.
Gener8 designed and developed the VMUX module in just 6 weeks and on
budget, thereby enabling Gemfire to highlight the integration opportunities
for product and so expand their market reach.
