Redfern
Integrated Optics (www.rio1.com) has
developed a low cost, high performance 10 Gbps laser for use in telecom
systems. Deploying products into this market requires an extensive evaluation
and qualification. To help with this process, Redfern contracted Gener8
to develop a easy to use and robust evaluation system for their laser.
Gener8 developed a complete turn-key demo product for RIO's laser that includes:

Control and driver electronics system comprising of a precision control system with TEC driver, automated power control, and constant current drive and a RF controlled impedance board for modulating the laser at 10 Gbps.

Integrated mechanical base for supporting the boards and laser and also provide solid electrical and thermal support.

Evaluation software with graphical user interface to allow for simple laser control and set point modification.
With the delivered system, Redfern Intetegrated Optics customers need only to power the board and use a standard bit-rate test system to evaluate the performance of the laser. The computer interface can then be used to vary the setpoints and determine the detailed response of RIO’s laser.
